There is nothing quite like a lighthouse to make you think of the magic and romance of the sea. We visited two lighthouses on our trip to Oregon. The first was the Yaquina Head Lighthouse at Newport. You park a nice distance away, and walk into the lighthouse. It is a beautiful walk to the lighthouse. I took this photo on our way to it.
There were costumed guides who took us on the tour and told us the history of the lighthouse. After a long climb, we reached the top.
The light at the top was interesting to see and the view from the top was beautiful.
They didn't let small children tour the lighthouse, so Eli, Lena, Ruby, Jill and Marsha stayed outside and hiked back down to the visitors center. Lena was very sad about that. When we arrived back at the visitor's center we could tell that Ruby had liked looking at at the pamphlets and running around.
The second lighthouse we visited was Heceta Head Lighthouse. You have to hike from the parking lot at the bottom of a hill, to the lighthouse at the top. Ann and Marsha decided to stay at the beach with Ethan and Eli at the bottom because the lighthouse had been undergoing some repairs and was not open for tours. But the rest of us wanted to enjoy the hike and see the lighthouse from the outside. On the way, we found some ferns that we had to have our picture by.
When we got to the top we discovered, to our surprise, that they were giving tours. So we all had a tour of Heceta Head Lighthouse too.
Afterwards, a nice older couple agreed to take a photo of us all.
