Matthew attended the Varsity Scouting Big Event June 17-19th. He had a lot of fun. They did things like repelling as you can see they are about to do here. On the other side of this wall was a climbing wall. Matthew liked it too--but not as much as repelling. They also had a tommahawk throw, shot black powder guns, canoed and lots of other fun stuff.
Matthew's scout leader took the photos we have of the Big Event (Matthew is not much of a picutre taker), and lo and behold, in the photos there was one of my cousin Carl! I was surpised.
Matthew helped cook breakfast the first morning (he said he was just posing, not cooking), but you must notice the snow on the ground! It has been a cold spring to say the least as this is the middle of June.
President Beck, the General Young Men's president was at the big event and spoke to all the boys. Here are all the boys from our ward with him.
WeI got a letter from the school at the end of the year telling us that Matthew was getting an award, and that is was a surprise. But Brent accidentally started telling him about it because they didn't mention it was to be a surprise until the end of the letter. But we still didn't know what the award was for. It was for being an outstanding geomentry student. Matthew is very good at math.
